Due Date Media Assignment
8/25 Use Ink Draw a telephone.  Either pick a phone that has a base and a separate receiver of place another object close to the phone.  Draw the contours only.  Remember that contour means OUTLINES and no shading.  Draw lightly.  Now go over your lines with ink.  Erase all of the pencil under the ink.  Now look for highlights.  Outline the bright areas on the phone.  In the background create a small area of texture no larger than one inch square.  Repeat this small texture to fill the entire background.
9/2 Use Pencil Arrange 8 to 10 bottles, jars and glasses of various sizes on a shelf.  Make sure that the objects overlap.  Do not completely hide any of the objects.  A few of them should be clear.  A few should be opaque.  Draw them lightly in pencil.  Gradually add value to the objects.  Remember that value means levels of light or dark.  Continue to build up value on the objects.  There should be at least 5 values used to create this drawing.
9/8 Use Pencil Neatly stack three folded towels one on top of the next.  Sit so that you are looking at one corner of the stack of towels.  You should be able to see two sides and the top of the stack.  Try to capture the texture of the fabric as well as the values that create the folds.
9/15 Multi Cut out and glue down a picture of a person from a magazine on your sketchbook page.  Create a cover for your favorite magazine around this picture.  Think about all of the elements that are part of a cover.  You will need to have titles for articles contained within.  There needs to be a publishing date and price.  Don't forget the UPC code.  Keep the picture and the titles appropriate for school.  Use a lot of color.  Try to make all of the lettering precise and uniform.
9/22 Use Pencil Draw one of your eyes.  Draw it again, but change your expression first.  On this page of your sketch book there should be at least 10 eyes with different expressions.  What details change when your emotion changes?  What details stay the same?  Draw larger than life.  Blend the values.  Find the highlights.  Find the shadows.
9/29 Use Ink and Color Draw an old tennis shoe in contour.  Draw directly in ink, DO NOT use pencil first for this drawing.  If you make a mistake, make it part of the drawing.  Be accurate.  Don't draw mechanically, instead look for details.  The laces are on top of the shoe, not painted on.  Parts of the shoe fit inside of or on top of other parts.  Each of these parts have their own shape and can be drawings by themselves.  Now create shadows and highlights with color.
10/6 Use Pencil Look at drawings of your eyes from two weeks ago.  Now draw 10 versions of your mouth with expressions that match your eyes from before.  Remember that the upper lip make an "M" shape and the lower lip makes a "W" shape.  Notice that the upper lip is darker than the lower lip.  Look for the highlight and shadow.
10/14 Use Ink Draw the dashboard of an automobile.  Draw lightly in pencil first.  Do not add shading until all of the contour drawing is complete.  Pay close attention to perspective and detail.  Once drawn, ink over your original lines and erase all of the pencil.  Now add all of the shading.  Use at least three different ways to create shadow and highlights with the ink.
