Classroom Expectations

1. Be prompt! Be in your seat before the bell rings.
    

2. Be prepared for class.

-    in dress code

-          textbook covered

-          binder for Spanish handouts

-          notebook for taking notes

-          pens, pencils

-          homework completed before entering the room            

3. Homework should be completed on time and be your work.

-          late work is never accepted and will result in a “0”

-          forgotten homework in a locker will result in a “0”

-          absentee policy is 1 day for each day absent

-          points are earned for daily homework

Each day you have the opportunity to earn 5 points on your homework.  If it is completed you will have earned your points with the following exception.  If I call on you in class to translate one of your answers and you cannot do so, you will lose your homework points for that assignment.  Therefore, doing your homework implies not just filling in the blanks but also, looking up unfamiliar words and translating them to English. 

     4.    Be polite to your classmates and me.

    5.   Be productive.  Work hard from bell to bell.

Policy for excused absences: 

It is YOUR responsibility to find out what you missed and to turn in work from the day you missed.

Follow this procedure:

a.    Go to the door of the classroom and look for “Tarea Español II”.

b.    Find the assignment for the day you were absent and write it down.

c.    Get any worksheets from me.  Since you were absent and I didn’t have the opportunity to call on you in person, you’ll need to translate your entire homework assignment as proof that you understand it well.

d.   Hand in your makeup work to me.  Label it with your name, period and the exercises noted.

e.   Get notes from a good student in my class. 

f.    If you missed a test or quiz you must schedule a time with me before or after school to retake it within the 1 day for each day absent policy.  If you fail to come in to retake quiz or test, you will receive a zero.

Policy for assigning grades:

            1 .  I don’t give grades.  You must EARN them.

2.    I use a total points system and don’t weight quizzes and tests more than homework.

3.   Class participation, working in pairs, and speaking in Spanish are all things which I take into consideration when assigning your grade. We will also sing songs from time to time and this is considered participation and time to work on pronunciation. 

4.   Grades will be earned by doing homework, speaking activities, participating in class, tests, quizzes, skits and short speeches.

5.  Extra credit will be available. (27 points per quarter) (I will explain this in class.)

Actions to avoid:

1.       Talking while I am talking or another student is giving an answer/asking a question.

2.      Closing up books and not working up until the bell rings.

3.      Wasting paired and group practice time.

4.      Asking to use the restroom – do this during passing periods. 

Consequences: 

            All actions/behavior are noted in the STEP program folder

1.       Verbal warning and/or conference with me

2.      After school personal detention with me (15-30 minutes)

3.      Parental contact / phone call home or intervention meeting –

4.     Removal from classroom – Disciplinary referral to Ms. Gau
