BINDER REQUIREMENTS: Ms. E. Thompson

Alleman Catholic High School 2008/2009

          This year at AHS some content courses are requiring binders for organization.  Each department will use a different color binder.  The mathematics department will be using WHITE binders only, 1-2 inches in size.  For Ms. E. Thompson’s classes you also need to include a set of 5 index dividers within the binder.  The categories we will label them with are: Notes, Assignments, Labs/Worksheets, Test/Quizzes, and Writing Assignments.  Your binder must be with you daily in class beginning 8/25/08 in order to avoid negative consequences.  We will use loose leaf paper within the binder rather than files, folders, or notebooks.  You do not need to purchase files, folders, or notebooks for my classes.  If you do, do NOT bring them to math class.  We will not use them.

            I recommend purchasing a pencil holder that may be placed directly in the binder to hold your other supplies so they remain with you and don’t fall out.  Please keep your binder clean, appropriate, and solely for math purposes—no other materials are permitted.  (Class work from other classes is not allowed in math class period, so leave that in your locker in the appropriate binder specified by that subject’s instructor please.)

            I expect to see you taking notes daily in your binder, filing your returned assignments in your binder daily, keeping all sections of your binder neat and orderly without throwing away anything.  You will be submitting your binders to me for grading purposes throughout the year.  I will not always let you know ahead of time when I am collecting them, or just grading a certain part of them.  From time to time I will be giving you certain materials and handouts that must be included in your binder.  (See me if you need copies of these because you were absent.)  Grades will be posted on the website through Parent Connect this year so you and your parents will be able to see your progress at any given moment in time rather than waiting for progress reports or report cards.

            From time to time I will require you to take your binder home to have a parent look at it and sign a parent sign sheet.  A copy of this information will be placed in your binder, on the website, and posted in my room.  If you have any questions or need help, always ask!
