SENIOR COLLEGE APPLICATION PROCESS

Mrs. Wolfe and Dcn. Granet are available to meet with you and your student regarding the college application process. Please feel free to call us to arrange a time to come in. A recommended timeline for your student in completing the college application process is as follows:

September
Meet with your counselor to discuss the following:
* College possibilities
* Early application deadlines
* Application procedures
* Recommendation letters from teachers
* Transcript procedures
* College representatives
* College visits
* ACT retakes /SAT/SAT Subject Tests

Be sure to bring the resume you prepared over the summer!

October
* Return completed applications (with checks, if applicable) to your counselor, who adds the transcripts and mails them.
* Explore scholarships on FastWeb.com; The Community Foundation website (cfgrb.org); the Alleman Website (allemanhighschool.org) and the Illinois Student Assistance Commission Higher-EdNet (isac-online.org)
* Ask your parents to ask about scholarships at their workplace and at organizations to which they belong.

November
* Application deadline of November 15h; U of IL, IL State
* Receive acceptances from schools
* Send in housing applications and deposits
* Find out about college/university school specific financial aid forms and deadlines
* Continue the scholarship process

December
* Give your parents the FAFSA (Free Application for Student Assistance) Form that you received in English class.
* Ask your parents to organize their tax records
* Notify your employer and ask your parents to notify theirs that you will need your W-2 as soon as possible after the first of the year
* Continue the scholarship process

January
* Complete the FAFSA either on the web or on paper. Make a copy for your records
* Request 7th semester transcripts, if required by your college or university
* Continue the scholarship process

February
* Copy all awards received from all colleges and universities that you have applied to and give a copy to your counselor for the Senior Awards Mass and Graduation Program
* Speak with your teachers regarding the advisability of taking one or more AP exams in May
* Continue the scholarship process

March, April, May
* Continue to do your best; as colleges do send a letter to rescind their offer of acceptance
* Return all information that your college or university sends you promptly, especially your financial aid offer
* Continue the scholarship process
* Notify colleges that you will not be attending
* Notify the main office of your final choice and ask them to send a final transcript
