Placement in courses offered through this department is based on guidance counselor references, teacher recommendations and student/parent request. Course selection must be in compliance with designated course sequence with three semesters of physical education required.

814       BEGINNING PHYSICAL EDUCATION & WELLNESS
1/2 Credit      Required
One Semester      Grade 9,10
The class will introduce a variety of fitness activities which may include any combinations of walking, jogging, running, jumping, and lifting.  Individual and team games will introduce students to skill development, strategies, rules, and scoring of each activity.  Students will learn sportsmanship and social skills while working with a partner or team members.  Evaluation will be based on daily participation, dress, attitude, cooperation, and knowledge of strategies and rules.
Cost: Students purchase locks and gym attire from the school. Approximate cost is $48.00.

824      PHYSICAL EDUCATION & WELLNESS
1/2 Credit      Required
One Semester       Grade 11, 12
This class is a continuation of activities learned in Beginning Physical Education & Wellness.  Fitness activities will be more strenuous and challenge students to improve their heart rate, cardiovascular endurance, and overall fitness.  Round-robin and tournament games will be played against other students.  Evaluation will be based on daily participation, dress, attitude, and fitness improvement throughout the class.
Cost: Students purchase locks and gym attire from the school. Approximate cost is $48.00.

834      ELECTIVE PHYSICAL EDUCATION & WELLNESS
1/2 Credit      Elective
One Semester      Grades 11 & 12
Prerequisite - 3 semesters of P.E., minimum 2.0 G.P.A. in all prior P.E. classes, maintain a minimum 2.0 G.P.A. in all P.E. classes, enroll in only one P.E. class per semester. (Any variance in the above criteria would require approval of the P.E. Department.)
This course is an elective course for any student that has met the above prerequisite and is interested in taking an additional physical education course. Students registering for course 834 will be enrolled with students completing course 824. This course will allow students to continue working on their physical health and wellness using skills learned previously.  Evaluation will be based on daily participation, dress, attitude, and fitness improvement throughout the class.

846      PHYSICAL EDUCATION & WELLNESS LEADERSHIP
1/2 Credit      Elective
One Semester       Grade 12
Prerequisite - 3 semesters of P.E. & approval of P.E. Department
This is an elective course for any senior who is interested in physical education as a career or is desirous of offering their service in this activity area. It introduces the student to various aspects of the department and teaching. It allows him/her to be responsible for equipment, help demonstrate and instruct individuals in skills, and referee during tournaments. Students will help construct written tests for the classes in which they are assisting as well as being required to pass written exams themselves.
Cost: Students purchase locks and gym attire from the school. Approximate cost is $48.00.

850       HEALTH
1/2 Credit      Required
One Semester       Grade 9
Topics studied during Health class include hygiene, emotions, mental health, how to cope with stress, alcohol and drug abuse, physical fitness, social fitness, nutrition, first-aid, safety, individual and community health care concerns. Written tests, daily quizzes and homework assignments are required. Speakers, displays, and field trips may also be part of the class when possible.
