Reverend Robert C. Foster, C.S.V., the son of the late Robert E. and Corinne Campion Foster, died on Tuesday, April 25, 2006, after a long illness.

The funeral was held at the Viatorian Province Center Chapel in Arlington Heights, Illinois on May 2nd.  Internment is at All Saints Cemetery in Des Plaines, IL.

1967 - 1973
 

Fr. Foster came to Alleman High School in 1966 as assistant principal and then became principal the next year, a post he held until 1973.  During his tenure, Alleman experienced significant growth in enrollment and curriculum development.

Previously, he was as Spalding Institute in Peoria, IL, where he taught English and social studies from 1954 to 1956 and returned in 1961 as an English teacher and assistant principal.  He served at Spalding until he moved to Rock Island.

After leaving Alleman, Father entered sabbatical studies at the Graduate Theological Union in Berkeley, CA, for one year and then went to Reno, NV, to be co-director of the Center for Religion and Life for the University of Nevada at Reno and pastor of Our Lady of Wisdom Church.  In 1976, Father returned to Illinois, where he served as pastor of St. Joseph's Church in Springfield, IL, for six years and then Immaculate Conception Church in Kankakee, IL.  In 1986, Father moved to Tucson, AZ, where he was chaplain at St. Joseph's Hospital.  In 1997, Fr. Foster retired to Las Vegas, NV, where he lived until his death.

Fr. Foster was born in Chicago on August 17, 1931.  He graduated from Fenwick High School, Oak Park, IL, in 1949.  His university studies included earning a B.A. in sociology from Loyola University (Chicago) in 1954, an M.A. in education and administration from Bradley University in 1961 and an M.S. in counseling from Loyola University (Baltimore) in 1983.

He professed first vows as a Viatorian on September 8, 1952, and final vows on September 8, 1955.  He was ordained to the priesthood in Joliet, IL by Bishop McNamara on May 28, 1960.
