From the Athletic Director…

Our Pioneers had some good team performances during the 2010-11 school year…Football 4A State Runner-Up, Boys and Girls Cross Country 1A Regional titles, Boys Cross Country 12th 1A State, Boys Golf 1A Regional title, Girls Tennis 2nd Conference & 2nd Sectional, Boys Basketball 2A Regional title, Boys Track 1A Sectional title and Boys Tennis 2nd Sectional.

In addition to our team accomplishments we had 5 student-athletes earn All-State honors. Kevin Wetherell was selected to the Class 4A IHSFCA Football All-State team; Matt Billingsley earned All-State honors finishing 9th in the 1600m run at the 1A State meet; Matt combined with Cory Yeager, Liam Otto and Ethan Adlfinger on the 4x800m Relay finishing 6th at the 1A State meet earning all of them All-State honors.

In 2010-11 Alleman had 29 student-athletes earn All-Conference honors and there were 64 Academic All-Conference selections (criteria: senior w/GPA 3.25+).

In addition, the IHSA Team Academic Achievement Award (team GPA 3.0 average +) included EVERY ALLEMAN SPORT for 2010-11!! Girls Cross Country, Boys Cross Country, Girls Golf, Boys Golf, Girls Volleyball, Girls Tennis, Boys Soccer, Football, Girls Basketball, Boys Basketball, Wrestling, Boys Tennis, Boys Track, Girls Track, Baseball, Softball and Girls Soccer achieved this honor. A plaque identifying all of our teams proudly displayed in the trophy case on the main floor directly across from the Hall of Fame, in addition to a section on the AHS Athletics and IHSA website.

Douglas Noe became the first Alleman student to earn a spot on the 2010-11 IHSA All-State Academic Team! The program has been in place since 1993-94, selecting 13 male & 13 female students each year from some 500 candidates. Just an outstanding and deserving honor for Douglas!

Congratulations to all our student-athletes for their achievements on and off the field of competition!

History of Alleman Athletic Directors

Steve Smithers
Athletic Director

Pete Vogel stepped down from his Boys Tennis coaching duties after giving 15 years to Alleman tennis. As Girls Coach (2001-2005) his overall record was 159-65 and as Boys Coach (2002-2011) he was 117-51. During his time he had a number of State Qualifiers, earned 2nd place finish in Conference twice, a 2nd in Sectional in 2011 and beat Moline in duals in 2010! He was always committed to the complete development of our student-athletes. The Alleman Tennis programs are in good shape thanks in large part to Coach Vogel’s efforts.

The IHSA passed along some sweeping changes for 2011-12 and beyond. The Multiplier Policy is new more performance based and the Classification System has been adjusted as well – both down to the individual sport level. Some programs will move up a class for next year – Boys Golf (2A), Boys Soccer (2A), Boys Basketball (3A) and Boys & Girls Track (2A). The IHSA website (www.ihsa.org) has more details.

Athletics is just one important part of the development at Alleman and we are proud that a significant percentage of our students participate during their four years. The foundation of our athletic program will always be hard work, teamwork, sportsmanship and leadership. While striving to achieve a high level of athletic success, we’ll always maintain proper perspective that a student-athlete is a student first and athlete second.

Our overall goal is to help and nurture our young people to achieve success in all facets of their high school life – my continued hope is that athletics remains an important, healthy part of that life. Best of luck to everyone in 2011-12!
