Alumni Spotlight: Adam Dell, Class of 2009

Service to his country through a military career was always the goal for U.S. Navy Master-at-Arms 1st Class Adam Dell, a 2009 graduate of Alleman Catholic High School. Hailing from East Moline he is one of almost 80 sailors serving aboard USS Constitution. Before his arrival on the USS Constitution, Adam served for 3 years in Bahrain. He currently has 6 months remaining on the USS Constitution, before being deployed overseas. Recently, Adam graduated from college with a Bachelor of Arts degree.

The USS Constitution is the Navy’s oldest commissioned warship, and the crew is hand-picked to promote naval history and maritime heritage while raising awareness of the vitality of a sustained naval presence. The ship earned the nickname “Old Ironsides” during the War of 1812 after British cannonballs were seen bouncing off the ship’s wooden hull. USS Constitution was not only undefeated in battle, but it captured or destroyed 33 enemy vessels.

Dell picked up valuable life skills at Alleman and other experiences that continue to serve him in his Navy career, emphasizing the importance of not allowing minor issues to overshadow larger objectives.

Ninety percent of the world’s commerce travels by sea and internet access relies on the security of undersea fiber optic cables, so it is vital for the Navy to emphasize that the prosperity of the United States is directly linked to trained sailors and a strong Navy. Dell is proud to protect our nation’s commerce and freedom at sea, recognizing that his role servers a greater purpose.
