Drama Dept Hall of Fame Induction
Step into the spotlight and celebrate the rich legacy of performance at Alleman Catholic High School. The Alleman Drama Department recognizes its most influential contributors through the Drama Hall of Fame, ensuring that the talent, dedication, and “theatrical magic” is never forgotten. This year’s inductees are Kay O’Brien and Sue Williams.
Kay O’Brien was a distinguished teacher of English and Communications who started at Alleman in 1982. Concurrently, she became the head of the Alleman Drama program, where she directed plays, musicals, and variety shows for two decades. Beyond directing, she served as the advisor for both the Speech and Drama Clubs, taking students on educational trips to Chicago and New York. She also initiated the Alleman Hunger Drive and Christmas Dove program and established the Alleman Actors for Children’s Theatre group, which performed in the community.
Her excellence in education was recognized with numerous honors, including Diocesan Teacher of the Year, the WQAD “Favorite Teacher Award” in 1995, and the Heritage Award for significant contributions to Alleman High School.
Outside the high school, she was a liturgical director for SPEC, directed shows at Quad City Music Guild, and taught drama classes for 38 years at College for Kids.
Sue Williams began her role in the drama department at Alleman in 1975, serving as a dedicated piano accompanist. With the This role began in 1975 with her first musical, Dames at Sea. From 1982 onwards, she formed a significant 20-year partnership with Kay O’Brien, working together on the school’s musicals and variety shows.
In addition to her extensive work at Alleman, she was a music teacher at St. Anne’s school for nearly 20 years, music director for the Children’s Theater at Circa 21, and held various music director and coordinator roles at QCMG and SPEC. She has been the pianist for masses and funerals at Christ the King parish since 2005.
