Math Team Accolades

Our ICTM Math team performed strongly at the state competition in mid-April. Following a first-place finish at regionals, the team placed 18th out of 64 in the 1A division. It is noted that at regionals, Alleman outscored math teams from many Catholic schools across the state.  These achievements highlight the hard work and discipline of our Pioneers, our math department, and their longtime sponsor, Mr. James Boudro.

Students who took part in the ICTM State Contest were Loren Anderson Natalie Assaf, Adam Bell, Callie Demueleneare, Helen Healy, Marcella Healy, Isabelle Hoffman, Adam Jacks, Caden Jenulis, Garret Myers, Julien Punkiewicz, Ava Praet, Caitlyn Welch, and Jack Wendt.

Additionally, in a special “full-circle” moment, Mr. Boudro met Mr. Tom Shilgalis, who began his career teaching math at Alleman from 1961 to 1965 before spending 35 years at Illinois State University. Tom, who directed the ICTM State finals for 20 years, shared that his early years at Alleman were the most rewarding of his career. It was there that he met his late wife, Kay Negro (Alleman Class of ‘61), who passed away in 2018. Tom said, “It is a pleasure to see the tradition of excellence continued by the current Pioneers.”
